Washington, DC — There is no excuse for not scheduling a
vote on managed care reform immediately, now that the long-awaited
Coburn-Shadegg legislative effort has been presented to House leaders,
according to U.S. Representative Charlie Norwood(R-GA).
Representatives Tom Coburn (R-AZ) and John Shadegg (R-AZ) today released
their managed care reform proposal, the Health Care Quality and Choice Act
of 1999.
"Tom Coburn and John Shadegg have brought the Republican leadership a lot farther along than anyone thought possible", says Norwood, "and for that, they should be congratulated by everyone who’s serious about managed care reform. GOP leaders now have a base bill to offer for floor action on this issue." Norwood says he would like to see the Coburn-Shadegg legislation brought to the floor, along with the Bipartisan Consensus Managed Care Improvement Act, H.R. 2723, no later than the week of September 21. The Consensus Bill has been endorsed by virtually the entire American
medical and patient advocacy communities. | |
