NORWOOD-DINGELL PASSAGE
A VICTORY FOR WOMEN & FAMILIES

Statement by Judith L. Lichtman, President
National Partnership for Women & Families

In a clear victory for all Americans, Congress sent a resounding message to bottom-line focused managed care bureaucrats: Put patients before profits.

We applaud Representatives Norwood and Dingell, and the courageous women and men from both sides of the aisle who held the line for patients against tremendous special interest and political pressure.

But the fight isn’t over yet. Ignoring the Americans’ demands for reform, the House leadership is bent on this managed care bill never sees the light of day. They have cunningly attached a series of poison pills that will make managed care reform DOA.

Women and families need the real protections and real accountability in the Norwood-Dingell bill.
