NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP FOR WOMEN & FAMILIES TO JOIN PRESIDENT CLINTON, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO CALL FOR REAL HMO REFORM

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – National Partnership for Women & Families President Judith L. Lichtman will join members of Congress and other supporters of HMO reform to launch a nationwide internet petition urging Congressional leaders to take immediate action on the Patients' Bill of Rights Act. The petition will be unveiled at a news conference:

In addition to Lichtman, speakers will include Families USA Executive Director Ron Pollack, and U.S. Representatives Brian Baird (D-WA), David Bonior (D-MI), James Clyburn (D-SC), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), John Dingell (D-MI), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and Ted Strickland (D-OH).

Following the press conference in Washington, Lichtman will ride with members of Congress and other leaders of national organizations on a charter bus to Philadelphia, where they will join President Clinton for an HMO Reform Rally. Other speakers at the Philadelphia rally will include U.S. Representatives David Bonior (D-MI), Robert Borski (D-PA), Robert Brady (D-PA), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Chaka Fattah (D-PA), AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, and Philadelphia Mayor Edward Rendell.

The National Partnership is leading more than 180 organizations in the fight for meaningful patient protections.
