SUMMARY AS OF:

AIDS Treatment and Assistance Act of 2000 - Amends title II (Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance) (OASDI) of the Social Security Act (SSA) to waive the 24-month waiting period for hospital insurance benefits under the OASDI program in the case of an individual medically determined to have acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Amends SSA title XVIII (Medicare) to: (1) provide, in the case of such an individual entitled to benefits under Medicare part A (Hospital Insurance) pursuant to such waiver, for enrollment in the Medicare part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance) program during an initial enrollment period beginning on the first day of the first month of entitlement to OASDI disability insurance benefits; and (2) provide for Medicare coverage of any drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration that is prescribed for use in the treatment or alleviation of symptoms relating to AIDS.
