Two AIDS clinics to share grant to help treat uninsured patients
BYLINE: Maura Lerner; Staff Writer
BODY:
The two largest AIDS clinics in the Twin
Cities will share a $1.2 million federal grant to help treat
uninsured and indigent patients.
The AIDS
clinics at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and Hennepin County Medical Center in
Minneapolis will receive the money over the next three years from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
"This
is extremely good news because it will help us continue the delivery of
outpatient services to our patients," said Dr. Keith Henry, medical director of
the HIV Clinic at Regions Hospital.
The
grant was made possible under the Ryan White CARE (Comprehensive AIDS
Resource Emergency) Act, named for the 18-year-old from Kokomo, Ind.,
who died of AIDS complications in 1990. The money is for home care,
transportation, counseling, hospice care and other care for people with AIDS or
HIV.
