SHADEGG'S ACCESS AND CHOICE BILL
PREVAILS
House passes measure to give
access to health care for the uninsured & choice in health
care to the insured
WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives today passed the Quality Care for the Uninsured Act, sponsored by Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ). This bill responds to the need for consumer choice and tax equity in health care.
The Quality Care for the Uninsured Act, is based on legislation introduced by Shadegg in May (H.R. 1687, the Patients' Health Care Choice Act). It gives Americans greater choice in health care options, greater access to health care, and improves incentives to purchase and consume health care services in a responsible fashion without complex government regulations and mandates.
"This is a great victory for the American people. Congress has ensured that the 44 million Americans without health insurance will have greater access to health care coverage. We also empowered every American with more choices when selecting a health plan," Shadegg said.
"Health care reforms should start with the premise that everyone is entitled to quality health insurance. This legisaltion has bridged the gap between the haves and have nots. It makes sure that all Americans have access to the health insurance that fits their needs and meets their priorities. It is not just good public policy, it's simple common sense," said Shadegg.
"The Quality Care for the Uninsured Act, restores
consumer choice, establishes tax equity, and will lower the cost and raise the
quality of health care in America. I commend Congressman Jim Talent (R-MO) for
his hard work and the Republican Leadership for their commitment to the issue of
choice and access," Shadegg said.
