Health Programs for Women
Prince William
Health System recently announced the creation of two women's
health programs at its Manassas facilities.
The
nonprofit network, which operates Prince William Hospital, received a $ 65,000
grant for breast cancer prevention from the National Race for the Cure
Foundation. The grant will pay for mammograms for low-income women who are
uninsured, older than 35 and live in Prince William County,
Manassas or Manassas Park. Also, the Health System announced that it has become
a licensed site for Lamaze International Inc.'s childbirth education programs.
For information on the cancer screenings, call health system spokeswoman
Donna Ballou at 369-8322. For information about the Lamaze classes, call
369-8405.
System Launched
Jones Communications recently launched
the Emergency Alert System, which will use all the cable system's channels to
distribute messages on severe weather, natural disasters and other crises.
The system is required by the Federal Communications Commission to
supplement the Emergency Broadcast System, which has long utilized the on-air
stations that fewer Americans are watching these days because of cable TV.
Jones Communications is a subsidiary of Jones Intercable Inc., based in
Englewood, Colo. It has more than 85,000 customers in the Prince William area.
