![]() News Release - Rep. Dick Armey Breakfast on Universal Coverage, October 26, 1999Download the audio news release (3.2 MB) or read below. Newsfeed Script - Universal Health CareThe following is a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3,2.... Narrator: At a function Tuesday sponsored by the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine, House Majority Leader Richard Armey of Texas stressed his new health care reform plan for a tax credit that would enable the more than 44 million Americans without health insurance to purchase coverage. "It's really a very fundamental fact. If we can reduce the cost we will increase the number of people who can afford it, and who will purchase insurance. What can be more important in health care than taking care of a baby and giving comfort to her mother." Narrator: According to ACP-ASIM President Dr. Whitney Addington, lack of health care runs a great risk. "Our medical experience, combined with the results of more than 130 scientific articles, has shown that a lack of health insurance is a devastating health risk factor--as dangerous as smoking cigarettes, failing to wear a seatbelt, or drinking too much alcohol." Narrator: For more information about the proposed reform, check out www.acponline.org/uninsured/ or call 1-800-338-2746. This is Eric Jon Magnuson reporting. ![]() |
