HEADLINE: SOME WOMEN USE PILL FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES

BODY:

I'm writing to comment on the abortion issue. Many women might not need to have abortions if birth control was more affordable. For myself and many other women, birth control pills are not covered by insurance, so I'm stuck paying $ 30 a month. However, I am not on the pill for the purpose of population control but to regulate my menstrual cycle. The pill is used for a variety of medical reasons.

What angers me is that Viagra is covered, as well as some types of plastic surgeries and abortions, but something that can prevent unwanted babies is not covered. Why are some of us paying for oral contraceptives out of our own pockets when we are using it for medicinal purposes as well as birth control?
