SUMMARY:
Committee Serial No. 106-63. Hearing to consider H.R. 4585, the Medical
Financial Privacy Protection Act, to amend the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act to
restrict financial institutions use and disclosure of individually identifiable
health information, including provisions to prohibit disclosure of health
information to an affiliate or non-affiliated third party without the
individual's affirmative consent.
Also briefly considers H.R.
4380, the Consumer Financial Privacy Act, the Administration bill, to strengthen
consumer control over the use and disclosure of personal financial and health
information by financial institutions.
