WHY EXCEPTIONS FOR INSURANCE FIRMS?
BYLINE: By ROBERT

BODY:
I agree wholeheartedly with
your comments about the state of Ohio stopping the selling of personal
information about Ohioans ("A little privacy, thank
you," June 27). I feel good that The Plain Dealer keeps its eye on the many
governmental moves that politicians don't publicize.
However, in this
instance, why will the information still be provided to insurance companies?
There are many indications that major insurance companies do not act in
accordance with their advertising claims. What kind of special clout did the
insurance industry have to allow it private information about Ohioans with a
"promise" not to use it for marketing purposes?
Next, Plain Dealer
editors will tell us they believe in the Tooth Fairy. I'd feel better if no one
had that personal information.
Is there a particular state legislator
who helped give the insurance companies this break?
The Plain Dealer
should stay on top of this.
