Supreme Courts Decision is a "SLAM
DUNK" For Competition States TRA
|
(Washington, D.C., January 25, 1999) - In
response to the Supreme Court's decision today addressing the FCC's
Local Competition Order (AT&T Corp. et al. V. Iowa
Utilities Board et al.), the Telecommunications Reseller
Association's (TRA) President, Ernest B. Kelly, issued the following
statement: "This decision is a 'slam dunk' for competition in the
telecommunications industry. Consumers everywhere should rejoice.
The Supreme Court has recognized the correctness of the FCC's
interconnection approach as a linchpin in the efforts to open the
local service market to competition. The decision reflects
positively on the wisdom and courage of the Commission under the
leadership of then Chairman Reed Hundt. It also reflects poorly on
certain incumbent local exchange carriers who wasted millions of
their shareholders' money to wage legal warfare against the advent
of competition." TRA joined AT&T as co-litigants in this case
along with other representatives of the competitive
telecommunication industry. |
