Action Alert - BellSouth Needs Your Help to Create a Faster, More Affordable Internet!

For Immediate Release:

October 18, 1999

Dear BellSouth Public Policy Network Subscriber,

BellSouth knows that what most Americans need from their Internet providers is speed - faster connections to the World Wide Web. While cable companies - many of which are controlled by AT&T -- are free to answer this need, outdated regulations limit local telephone companies ability to serve that market. Those outdated FCC policies are preventing many consumers from having a meaningful choice of high-speed Internet access providers, and that's not fair.

Fortunately, the U.S. Congress is now considering legislation that would level the playing field and allow BellSouth and other local telephone companies to compete with the cable giants in the Internet access market. But as you might expect, AT&T and the cable companies are doing all they can to defeat this legislation and keep their hold on the market.

As someone interested in BellSouth, we need your help to tell Congress to remove regulations from the Internet and give all competitors the opportunity to provide high-speed Internet access! With just a few minutes and a few clicks of your mouse, you can send a FREE FAX to your members of Congress about this important issue from the FASTERnet.org web site at:

http://www.fasternet.org/

While you are there, you can also learn more about the issue and sign-up to have future action alerts and news releases delivered right to your e-mail box!

Help us tell Congress that it's time to let consumers, not the government, make real choices between high-speed Internet access providers. Visit http://www.fasternet.org/ today!

PS - Please pass this message on to other Internet users interested in building a faster, more affordable Internet. Thank you!
