SPRINT OFFERS DSL TO INTERNET SERVICE
PROVIDERS With Sprint DSL, ISPs Can Attract
More Customers by Offering High-Speed Access
MAY
22, 2000 KANSAS CITY, MO
Through Sprint DSL service, Internet service providers
(ISPs) now can offer their customers the benefits of
high-speed Internet and local area network (LAN) access,
broadband capabilities, and an instant-on connection, along
with simultaneous voice and data transmission. Currently
available in Las Vegas, Charlottesville, Va., and Orlando,
Tallahassee, Fort Myers and Naples, Fla., ISPs will soon be
able to also offer Sprint DSL in additional areas as Sprint
continues its aggressive deployment of DSL infrastructure to
selected markets within its local service territories.
This is an additional business solution that can help ISPs
better meet customer demands at rates that are competitive and
flexible, said Greg Crosby, assistant vice president,
Integration Management, Sprint. With Sprint DSL, ISPs can
provide their customers with simultaneous voice and data
transmission and high-speed Internet access all through a
single phone line provided by Sprint. This capability can set
them apart from other providers and help compete against
alternative technologies such as cable modems."
With Sprint DSL, ISPs not only can offer their customers
the ability to be online while talking on the telephone, but
also flexibility and power, with access speed combinations up
to 1.5 Mbps, and the security of private network connectivity.
Once the user is connected, the ISP maintains primary
contact with the customer, controlling instant-on access,
invoicing for DSL service, and acting as an interface for
troubleshooting.
Pricing, Service and Technical Requirements Sprint
offers several flexible pricing and service options for ISPs,
which vary according to term, volume and speed, allowing
providers to choose a volume discount program that best fits
their business needs.
Once an ISP decides to subscribe to this service, Sprint
works closely with the provider to ensure a smooth transition
to Sprint DSL. Technical requirements for ISPs include an
asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) connection to the Sprint data
network to accommodate the variable bandwidth from users, and
DSL modems at both the local central exchange office and the
user's site. In addition, to be eligible for DSL service,
users must be within 18,000 cable-feet of their Sprint
DSL-equipped local exchange office. For more information about
