BLIND READING ORGANIZATION
FILES FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST

In March of 2000, the organization which represents specialized radio service for the blind, International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS),  asked the FCC to conduct a test on the effect of LPFM on IAAIS' specialized FM transmissions and receivers.  For years, it has been common knowledge that these transmissions and receivers are particularly sensitive to interference.  IAAIS provided the FCC with samples of its receivers to conduct the tests.  In mid-June, the FCC returned all but three of the receivers, indicating that the FCC had completed its tests.  Still, the FCC has refused to release the results of the test despite numerous requests by IAAIS.   Such maneuvering forced IAAIS to file a Freedom of Information Act request with the FCC on October 18.
