Reno, NV — Immediately following the Clinton/Gore
Administration's veto of the bipartisan legislation to repeal the "Death
Tax," U.S. Congressman Jim Gibbons (R-NV) released the following
statement:
"Once again, the Clinton/Gore Administration has failed to support commonsense, bipartisan tax reform for Nevada's hardworking families. Many small business owners, farmers, and ranchers will be unable to afford passing down the product of years of hard work to next-generation family members because of this onerous tax. When Nevadans have already spent their entire careers paying taxes on their property and hard work, the government should not have the right to tax them again, especially at a rate of up to 55%." "Our bi-partisan House delegation in Nevada got it right when this vote came up in Congress this year, however this administration failed to hear the call of those we represent. Rather, this administration decided to engage our country in class warfare and partisan bickering, which does nothing to provide Nevadans with a tax code that is more simple and fair." | |
