Legislation’s Fundamental Component Eliminates Estate Tax

WASHINGTON, DC -- June 24, 1999 -- Americans Against Unfair Family Taxation is pleased to commend the introduction of legislation by Rep. Sam Johnson (TX) that includes the Dunn-Tanner (H.R. 8) approach to repealing the death tax as one of its fundamental components. Johnson’s bill, the American Values Tax Savings Act of 1999, is the major tax reduction proposal of the Conservative Action Team (CATs) this year.

Family-owned businesses throughout the United States have come together with a single, but extremely important goal – to repeal the estate tax. "Small, family-owned businesses are widely recognized as the greatest source of new jobs in the U.S. economy, noted Tim Hammonds, co-chairman of AAUFT and president and CEO of the Food Marketing Institute. In the supermarket industry, they are regarded as the greatest innovators. The estate tax kills jobs and stifles innovation among one of the most important sectors of our economy."

Americans Against Unfair Family Taxation, Inc. (AAUFT) is comprised of businesses, organizations and individuals who have joined together to repeal estate taxes. The effort led by AAUFT will include a complete grassroots campaign, a national television and print advertising initiative and a series of local town meetings designed to inform the American people.

The founding members of AAUFT are: Food Distributors International, Food Marketing Institute, Grocery Manufacturers of America, International Franchise Association, National Association of Broadcasters, National Association of Convenience Stores, National Beer Wholesalers Association, and Printing Industries of America.
