Senate to Vote on Death Tax Repeal,
House Defeats WTO Withdrawal Resolution

Senate plans vote on death tax repeal bill. The Senate shifted course earlier this week and announced that it will begin debating the House-passed death tax repeal bill H.R. 8 - The Death Tax Elimination Act. The Senate has tentatively scheduled a vote on the bill on Wednesday, June 28. Prior to the vote on the bill, death tax repeal supporters must garner 60 votes to invoke cloture which will end debate on the measure and force a vote. H.R. 8 passed the House earlier this month by a bipartisan vote of 279 - 136.

AIADA encourages Senate to support cloture and death tax repeal. In a letter to all Senators, AIADA urged support of death tax repeal. In the letter, AIADA stated: "The American entrepreneurial spirit serves as the backbone of this great nation and should be encouraged, not penalized. Please vote to repeal the Death Tax."

AIADA activates dealers for grassroots action. AIADA sent Legislative Alerts to all dealers asking them to contact their Senators and encourage them to vote for cloture and for repeal of the death tax. A vote against cloture will represent a vote against death tax repeal.

House reaffirms commitment to World Trade Organization (WTO). On Wednesday, the House easily defeated a resolution -- H.J. Res. 90 -- by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) requiring the U.S. to withdraw from the WTO. The House rejected the resolution by a vote of 363 - 56. Passage of the Paul resolution would have severely damaged the U.S. and international trade. Proponents of the resolution criticized the role of the WTO. "The WTO needs to become far more transparent," said Rep. Helen Chenoweth (R-ID). "We do not need the WTO to maintain free and fair trade."

AIADA urges House to reject Paul WTO withdrawal resolution. In a letter urging all House members to oppose H.J. Res 90, AIADA stated: "Withdrawing from the WTO would negatively impact the U.S. and the benefits the WTO and international trade provide America and its consumers."
