NFIB Unveils Genius of a
Plan for Tax Day Small Business Group to
Use Einstein's Words of Wisdom to Promote Tax
Reform At 20 Events Nationwide on April
17.
WASHINGTON, April 3, 2000 -- The
small business group NFIB today announced it
plans to push for comprehensive tax reform and
simplification by distributing literature using
the wise words of Albert Einstein at post
offices in 20 cities on April 17, this year's
federal income-tax filing deadline.
"The
hardest thing in the world to understand is the
income tax," Einstein, generally regarded as the
smartest person to ever live, is credited with
saying. Einstein's quote is the centerpiece of
NFIB's tax-day strategy, and will be featured on
educational brochures to be distributed at post
offices across America on April 17.
"It
doesn't take a genius to figure out the current
tax code doesn't work," said NFIB President Jack
Faris. "America's small businesses are
suffocating under the 5.6 million words and
phrases in the IRS code. As hard-working
Americans mail their tax returns on April 17,
small business owners will remind their friends
and neighbors to call on their elected
representatives for a fairer and simpler tax
code. After all, if Einstein couldn't figure it
out, how can we?"
NFIB's Small Business
Growth Agenda focuses on alleviating the tax
burden hindering small business in three key
areas: 1) the death tax 2) the payroll
tax 3) the IRS code itself The Agenda also
calls on Congress to save Social Security the
right way - not by raising payroll taxes or by
letting the federal government invest Social
Security funds in the stock market, but by
creating personal retirement accounts to allow
individuals to invest their own retirement
money.
NFIB believes the current tax code
is beyond repair and should be sunsetted and
replaced with a fairer, simpler system. NFIB has
not endorsed a specific replacement tax plan,
but advocates a lighter overall tax burden, a
system that encourages economic growth and is
simple enough for all taxpayers to
understand.
Following is a list of cities
where NFIB's small business owners will
demonstrate support for a fairer and simpler tax
code as taxpayers mail their returns on April
17. Details regarding each post-office event
will be sent to media outlets in each city.
