Clinton to veto death tax repeal
Release Date: 08/31/00

President Clinton is expected to veto the death tax repeal today, to the chagrin of most small business owners and Republicans.

The bill is too expensive and undermines our ability to pay down the debt and strengthen Social Security, says White House spokesman Jake Siewert.

NFIB strongly supports the death tax repeal. Candidate George W. Bush has said that if elected, he would overturn Clinton's veto.

Many farmers and business owners are penalized by having to buy expensive insurance to cover the tax or pay for legal and accounting advice to reduce or avoid it.

The bill would repeal the tax gradually over 10 years at a cost of $105 billion.
