Capitol Hill Watch

Every day, SAF fights to make sure your opinion is heard on Capitol Hill. It's a constant battle to ensure your business is protected from useless rules and regulatons.

IRS Rules: Unfair to Small Businesses?
"There is nothing more annoying to the small business community than to have the IRS issue a proposed rule when it is obvious that the authors have little or no understanding of the business practices covered by the rule," was the sentiment expressed in a letter sent last week to Speaker of the House Denny Hastert by the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC). Writing on behalf of nearly 80 trade and professional associations, including SAF, the SBLC urged the Speaker to move H.R. 1882 directly to the floor of the House for passage. H.R. 1882 would require future IRS rules to be subject to the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA), which requires evaluation of rules for their impact on small business.

Even better, SAF knows how to uncover the hidden agendas and backroom politics that can make or break your business. We know how Washington really works, and will make sure you do, too.

Some recent SAF successes include:

Increased floral reseach funding:

  • SAF helped convince Congress to put some of your tax money into federal research that can benefit your business.

Estate tax relief:

  • SAF pressured Congress to repeal the crippling estate tax. Recent legislation passed by Congress would do just that.

As an SAF member, you'll have access to even more valuable products and services, including:

  • A weekly fax update which will give you the latest news from Washington and an up-to-the-minute report on congressional activities
  • Instant access to members of Congress through www.safnow.org
  • An opportunity to come face to face with Washington lawmakers and to tell them how their decisions will affect your business.
