Statement From Sen. Landrieu on Interior Appropriations Conference Report and CARA

Washington, D.C. (Sept. 29) – Following is a statement from Sen. Mary L. Landrieu (D-La.) regarding the proposal included in the Interior Appropriations conference report:

"This proposal has fallen far short of the principals and goals outlined in the bipartisan CARA legislation. It is understandable how some appropriators continue to resist the automatic and stable funding mechanisms which define CARA. However, when it comes to protecting our coastlines and open spaces, expanding our parks, and investing in wildlife conservation, the annual budget grab-bag approach just doesn't work. The fight for CARA is far from over. I am confident that before we adjourn this year, Congress and the President will secure an environmental legacy that our children and grandchildren will be grateful for, and that we will all be proud of.
