Sen. Landrieu Statement on House Committee Passing OCS Legislation

Washington D.C. - Senator Mary L. Landrieu (D-La.) issued the following statement after the House Resources committee pass the Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 1999 by a 37-12 margin:

"This afternoon the House of Representatives Committee on Resources showed what can happen in a democracy when leaders are determined to make things happen. Chairman Don Young is to be commended for his extraordinary effort in working diligently across party lines to make the bill strong enough to pass out of his committee by a 3-1 margin. My Louisiana colleagues Congressmen Chris John and Billy Tauzin also need to be commended for their leadership and dedication to passing this legislation before Congress recess's for the year. Hopefully when we return in January, my Senate colleagues and I can use the House bill as a blueprint for a 3bipartisan compromise. I also hope that the passage of this bill sends a loud, clear signal to President Clinton and Vice President Gore and the Congressional negotiators as they the final spending bills for the year."
