In early October,
2000, Congress enacted the Interior Appropriations bill which
included increased funding for conservation in 2001 with a promise
to provide even more funding in the next five years. While this was
an improvement over the past years, it fell short of what NWF and
many others were hoping to achieve by enacting the Conservation and
Reinvestment Act (CARA). We share your disappointment that CARA
was not enacted in the 106th Congress, especially after getting so
close, and we are committed to working in the 107th Congress to
fulfill the promise of CARA.
Regardless of the outcome, NWF wishes to convey its deep
appreciation to the broad-based, grassroots coalition that is
absolutely essential for wildlife conservation efforts, both in the
immediate past and for the future. We are grateful for the vitality
and unity of conservation supporters across the country and were
heartened by the enthusiasm that our supporters exhibited, in
particular during the final hectic weeks as we rallied for CARA's
passage. Together
we accomplished significant conservation achievements. |
