URGENT!!!!!!! Conservation Funding Needs Your Help
Now
Please urge
President Clinton and House and Senate leadership today to make
sure there is real wildlife funding in this year's budget.
A substitute for
historic conservation funding legislation passed Congress October 5,
and was signed by President Clinton on October 11, but the fight is
not over. Congressional supporters of the Conservation and
Reinvestment Act (CARA) are working to strengthen state wildlife
funding provisions before the 106th Congress adjourns.
CARA supporters in the House and Senate are working to include a
stronger state wildlife provision in one or more federal spending
bills. President Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS),
and House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), who are responsible for
finalizing these bills, need to hear today that you support
significant, dependable funds for state-based wildlife conservation
efforts.
What You Can Do:
Because time is so short, please Please
contact President Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Lott and House
Speaker Hastert at 202-224-6253 and ask them to support language
that assures wildlife funding for each state. Here are some specific
points you can make:
- The conservation funding deal already passed by Congress
failed to assure that each state gets a share of wildlife funding
dollars.
- Each state wildlife agency has a backlog of species that need
protection and management to prevent them from becoming
endangered. We can reduce the money and trouble by helping these
species rather than waiting until they are on the brink of
extinction.
CARA
Facts:
The House passed CARA by a 3-to-1 bipartisan vote... 63 U.S.
Senators support CARA and want CARA brought to a vote... Senator
Lott has expressed his support (in a letter
signed by Senate leaders) for CARA...
