Dear Editor:

A coalition of mega-corporations is pushing Congress to terminate its annual reviews of China’s abysmal trade and human rights record. The Chinese dictatorship has ten million Chinese citizens imprisoned in forced labor camps for "crimes" of seeking political and religious freedom. Yet, the corporate coalition wants Congress to grant China permanent Normal Trade Relations (NTR) status.

Because it guarantees unfettered access to the U.S. market, this change could make it a certainty that corporations will move jobs to China, where wages of $.14 an hour make Mexico seem like a high wage production choice. Yet, the U.S. has had open trade with China for a decade and in that time the U.S. State Department has said that human rights in China have seriously deteriorated while the U.S. now has an $83 billion trade deficit with China. Why would Congress surrender the opportunity to address these issues forever? Congressman/woman XXX should oppose permanent NTR for China.

Thank you,

Dear Editor,

I hear that Congressman/woman XXX is thinking about granting permanent Normal Trade Relations (NTR) status to China. I can’t believe what he/she would decide to reward a country renown for its abuses of worker and human rights with unlimited access to the U.S. market FOREVER.

This flawed free trade scheme fails to address China’s legacy of abuse, its intolerance for organized labor, and its continued and illegal dumping of cheap imports into the U.S. markets (many of which are produced in forced labor camps.)

Permanent NTR for China is the wrong thing to do. I hope that Congressman/woman XXX comes to the same conclusion.

Sincerely,

To the Editor:

Sounds like Big Business has come up with a new way to ship good American jobs overseas … permanent Normal Trade Relations (NTR) for China.

Big Business wants us to believe that this new free trade scheme will benefit the U.S. and create jobs. But just like NAFTA, the cost of this scheme will be the jobs of hard working Americans.

American workers need fair trade, not free trade. I hope Congresswoman/man XXX is ready to stand up for workers in his/her district and oppose permanent NTR for China.

Thank you,
