Correcting the Record on China Trade Issues
From the Business Coalition for U.S.-China Trade

The Allegation

It makes no difference when the Senate takes up China PNTR.

Amending the House-passed PNTR bill is not such a bad idea.

The Facts

"[Labor lobbyists] hope to slow PNTR down enough to push a vote closer to the election or perhaps into the next Congress. 'If there is any way to stop it, it's going to be a procedural issue,' said Mike Mathis of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters." -- The Hill, 6/7/00

"If [PNTR supporters were] smart, they would take it in its original form. If they're not smart, we can get back into this thing." -- Rich Michalski, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, The Hill, 6/7/00

"Labor leaders are enthusiastic about the prospect that stalled Senate action or a different Senate bill could push the vote back to the House. 'We'd love another crack at it,' said Mathis of the Teamsters." -- The Hill, 6/7/00
