Bass Receives Humane Legislator of the Year Award
American Humane Association Honors NH Congressman for Support of Key Animal Issues

Washington, D.C. - The American Humane Association (AHA) announced today that it has awarded U.S. Representative Charles Bass (R-NH02) with a Humane Legislator of the Year award. AHA said that it chose New Hampshire’s Second District Congressman to receive this honor based on his support for important animal issues before the 106th Congress.

“Representative Bass is a true friend to animals,” said Timothy M. O’Brien, AHA’s President. “For 123 years, the American Humane Association has worked to protect animals and children from abuse, cruelty, and neglect. We’re glad to present Representative Bass with a Humane Legislator of the Year Award and for joining us in that fight.”

“It is an honor to receive this award,” said Bass whose family has two dogs and several chickens. “I am proud of my work in Congress to prevent animal abuse and promote the humane treatment of all animals.”

In presenting its Humane Legislators of the Year awards, AHA considered the support Members of Congress have given on key issues affecting animals under consideration by Congress, including legislation introduced by Bass. The New Hampshire Republican sponsored the lethal predator control amendment to last year’s agriculture appropriations bill (H.R. 1906), which would cut money from the taxpayer subsidy for western ranchers and discourage the use of lethal trapping methods.
