VIPPS Inspector Training Course To Be Held During NABP’s 96th Annual Meeting

2/16/00

Boards of Pharmacy compliance officers interested in serving as part-time inspectors for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites™ (VIPPS™) program can receive training during a new workshop at NABP’s 96th Annual Meeting at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. NABP will offer the VIPPS training seminar from 9 am to noon on Saturday, May 6, 2000. The seminar is designed to provide interested individuals with the training to perform VIPPS inspections, a critical component of the certification process for Internet pharmacy sites.

VIPPS is a voluntary program designed to certify an online pharmacy’s preparedness to meet the unique demands of pharmacy practice on the Internet. To qualify, online pharmacies must be licensed by the appropriate state boards of pharmacy, meet a rigorous 17-point criteria review, and undergo an on-site inspection.

NABP prefers that interested individuals have a pharmacy degree and/or a law enforcement background, with experience as a state pharmacy inspector. Internet access is essential.

“The VIPPS Inspector Training Program is designed to orient and familiarize state pharmacy inspectors with the role of inspectors in the VIPPS program,” says Dyke F. Anderson, NABP president. “The seminar will prepare inspectors to conduct online inspections and review documentation submitted by online pharmacies.”

The morning’s training will include:

* An overview of the VIPPS program and certification process;

* Detailed discussions of the 17-point criteria;

* VIPPS report-writing conventions;

* Break-out group case studies and a summary session;

* Insight into the VIPPS program and the responsibilities of VIPPS inspectors;

* A discussion about the VIPPS program from the perspective of a representative from a VIPPS-certified pharmacy; and

* A virtual tour of an online pharmacy.

Those interested in attending the VIPPS Inspector Training Seminar should check the appropriate box on the Annual Meeting registration form and send both the form and applicable fees to the NABP Meetings Desk at 700 Busse Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Advance registration is required. For more information about the 96th Annual Meeting or the VIPPS program, please call NABP at 847/698-6227.
