NABP Awards Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites™ (VIPPS™) Certification to FamilyMeds.

3/24/00

FamilyMeds.com, of Farmington, Conn, has become the most recent online pharmacy to receive the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites™ (VIPPS™) certification from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).

This certification permits FamilyMeds.com to display the VIPPS hyperlink seal of approval on its Web site. The VIPPS seal attests that FamilyMeds.com has met a rigorous 17-point criteria review that considers patient confidentiality, security of prescriptions, a quality assurance program, and patient-pharmacist consultation. By clicking on the seal, consumers will be able to find the verified information they need to make informed decisions regarding their choice of online pharmacies. Consumers may also access the VIPPS database directly via NABP’s Web site at www.nabp.net.

"NABP is pleased to award VIPPS certification to FamilyMeds.com," says NABP President Dyke F. Anderson. "The VIPPS program, together with the hyperlinked seal, provides a measure of trust to consumers that the prescription medications they receive are from legitimate online pharmacies. By complying with the stringent criteria of the VIPPS online pharmacy certification program, FamilyMeds.com has demonstrated its commitment to the philosophy of the VIPPS program."

FamilyMeds.com is a full-service pharmacy launched by parent-company Arrow Corporation of Farmington, Conn, in August 1999. In addition to prescription medications, FamilyMeds.com offers a comprehensive selection of over-the-counter items such as vitamins and herbal supplements; medical provisions; and health, beauty, and personal care products. Customer service representatives and clinical pharmacists are available by telephone, e-mail, or fax to answer patient questions regarding their prescriptions.

"FamilyMeds.com is proud to have earned the VIPPS seal of approval," notes Ed Mercadante, president and CEO of FamilyMeds.com. "As an online pharmacy founded and managed by licensed pharmacists, the VIPPS seal reinforces our commitment to the health and well-being of our customers."

Participation in the VIPPS certification program is voluntary. The program was developed to provide consumers with reliable means to identify those online pharmacies that have proven their ability and authorization to dispense pharmaceuticals to the public in the jurisdictions listed on the VIPPS Web site.
