RE: Pocket veto of the bankruptcy bill
DA: Dec. 19, 2000

Sen. Chuck Grassley issued the following comment about President Bill Clinton's pocket veto today of the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 2000.

"President Clinton let the American people down by pocket vetoing the bi-partisan bankruptcy reform bill. This veto means that financially-troubled family farmers don't have protection against foreclosure, that residents of nursing homes that file for bankruptcy can be evicted in the middle of the night, and that consumers will continue to pay higher prices for goods and services due to the exploding number of bankruptcies. With predictions of bankruptcies about to rise as much as 15 percent next year, I'm disappointed that the President used the pocket veto procedure to avoid Congress' overriding the veto and giving the American people badly-needed bankruptcy reform."
