Bankruptcy Filings Continue to Drop in 2000

Bankruptcy filings continue to drop in the year 2000. For the twelve month period ending June 30, 2000 (1,276,922 total filed), fell 8.3% compared with the number of filings during the twelve month period ending June 30, 1999 (1,391,964 total). The decrease was realized in both  consumer filings, with an 8.3% decline in consumer filings (1,352,030 to 1,240,012) and a 7.6% decrease in business filings (39,934 to 36,910).

The top filing district in the country was the Central District of California which reported 91,311 bankruptcy filings during the twelve month period ending June 30, 2000 (this amount is two times more than any other district).
