Daschle Predicts Veto Proof Passage of Bankruptcy Reform Bill Unlikely

Senate Minority Leader Daschle (D-SD) predicted yesterday that the bankruptcy reform bill, H.R. 2415, would pass the Senate today, but without the 2/3 necessary to override a veto. In fact, Daschle, who did vote to invoke cloture, announced he would vote against the conference report.

Regarding Senator Wellstone's (D-MN) continued support, during the debate yesterday, during his floor speech, he indicated that a majority of Senate Democrats opposed the measure, and that he is convinced "we'll get the 34 votes to sustain the veto". Wellstone went further and called the legislation "sham reform".
