SUMMARY:
Committee Serial No. 106-26. Hearing before the Subcom on Workforce Protections to consider the following bills:
   H.R. 987 (text, p. 41-44), the Workplace Preservation Act, to require OSHA to consider the findings of a National Academy of Sciences study on the relationship between repetitive workplace tasks and musculoskeletal disorders before promulgating a national ergonomics standard.
   H.R. 1438 (text, p. 47-49), the Safety and Health Audit Promotion Act of 1999, to amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to shield from disclosure in OSHA inspection, investigation, or enforcement proceedings any records, reports, or other information prepared in connection with employer safety and health self-audits.
   H.R. 1439 (text, p. 53-57), the Safety and Health Audit Promotion and Whistleblower Improvement Act of 1999, to amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to shield from disclosure in OSHA inspection, investigation, or enforcement proceeding any records, reports, or other information prepared in connection with employer safety and health self-audits, and to expand protections for whistleblowers filing complaints concerning occupational health and safety conditions.
   H.R. 1459 (text, p. 61-66), the Models of Safety and Health Excellence Act of 1999, to authorize DOL to expand existing voluntary protection programs to promote and recognize the achievement of worksites that demonstrate excellence in workplace health and safety.
