The U.S. Labor Department's proposed ergonomics rule would cost small- and medium-sized manufacturers $6.7 billion in the first year, possibly forcing some companies to shut down, said the National Association of Manufacturers. The proposal by the Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration would require employers to minimize the risk of repetitive-stress injuries.
