House Votes to Block Funding for OSHA's Ergonomics Rule

RELATED INFO
Read more on OSHA's Ergonomics proposal in the Truckline Safety & Workplace section

In a 217-214 vote, the House last night approved H.R. 4577, the FY 2001 appropriations bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, including language that prohibits funding for OSHA to "promulgate, issue, implement, administer, or enforce any proposed, temporary, or final standard on ergonomic protection."

Within the next two weeks, the Senate will consider its own version of the Labor-HHS spending bill. It is expected that an ergonomic provision similar to that approved by the House will be included in the Senate bill.
