AWARD AMOUNT: $348,629

DURATION: 18 months

PURPOSE: The Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA) plans to continue, supplement and improve domestic violence victims' access to attorneys and knowledge about civil legal options. This continuation and supplemental application will increase: 1) availability of direct legal representation to victims of domestic violence through a coordinated statewide project; 2) the existing pool of pro bono attorneys available to represent a domestic violence victim in child custody, divorce or protective order proceedings; and 3) availability of legal representation to immigrant victims of domestic violence in protective order proceedings and racial, cultural, ethnic and racial minorities in rural and bush communities. ANDVSA also will continue to provide training, develop a mentoring program, and compose a Family Law Practice manual for legal services and pro bono attorneys.

AWARD AMOUNT: $294,788*

PURPOSE: These funds will allow the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to partner with the Alaska Legal Services Corporation and the Immigration and Refugee Services Program to provide statewide legal representation for victims of domestic violence in child custody, divorce, and protective order proceedings. An attorney will be hired to work with Refugee Services to represent battered immigrant women in protective order proceedings. Another attorney will work with the Network's Legal Advocacy Project to develop a mentoring program with the Legal Services Corporation's pro bono program. Goals of the project include increasing the number of pro bono attorneys available to represent domestic violence victims and bringing legal services to traditionally underserved victims of domestic violence in rural and bush Alaska.
