![]() Civil Legal Assistance Grant Program FY 2000 LOUISIANA AWARD RECIPIENT: AWARD AMOUNT: $184,690 DURATION: 18 months PURPOSE: Through this supplemental award, Southeast Louisiana Legal Service's Corporation, in collaboration with the Southeast Spouse Abuse Program and the St. Tammany Battered Women's Program, will continue to provide legal services and representation to victims of domestic violence in five parishes. The continuation project will: 1) develop training curricula and a reference manual for staff attorneys providing civil legal assistance to domestic violence victims; 2) maintain and track results of referred DV cases; 3) provide representation to domestic violence clients in matters relating to housing, landlord/tenant, employment, child custody and protection orders; and 4) evaluate and assess services and other efforts all designed to ensure that civil legal assistance is part of an overall, integrated approach to address victims' needs.
AWARD AMOUNT: $277,985 DURATION: 18 months PURPOSE: Through this grant, the Southwest Louisiana Legal Services Society, Inc., (SWLLS), a nongovernmental, non profit organization, will provide legal services to victims of domestic violence in Southwest Louisiana. SWLLS will provide legal assistance in the following areas: divorce, custody, child and spousal support, protective orders, contempt citations, tort defense, consumer litigation, community property partitions, landlord/tenant rights, and protection of retirement and annuity benefits. The project will coordinate with the District Attorney's Office, STOP Domestic Violence Against Women Program to provide prosecutorial support, and the June Jenkins Women's Shelter, which will provide a safe environment and education and mentoring services to the victims of domestic violence. Finally, the Haadee Foundation, Inc. will provide training to staff personnel and domestic violence victims.

PROGRAMS AWARD RECIPIENT: AWARD AMOUNT: $90,938* PURPOSE: These funds will allow the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services Corporation to build on the collaborative relationship with the Southeast Spouse Abuse Program and the St. Tammany Battered Women's Program to meet the civil legal needs of victims of domestic violence. The program will provide cross-training, evaluation, and assessment of services, planning meetings, and other efforts designed to ensure that civil legal assistance is part of an overall, integrated approach to address victims' needs.
