CONGRESS TEMPORARILY ADJOURNS - LSC FUNDING
STILL NOT APPROVED BY PRESIDENT
WASHINGTON -- Congress today approved an additional
continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government at FY 2000
levels until November 14, 2000. With the passing of the CR, the
House and Senate have adjourned temporarily until November 14,
2000.
Although Congress recently approved the conference report
containing LSC's FY 2001 $330 million allocation, the President has
yet to sign the bill into law. "We are encouraged by the $25 million
increase that strong Congressional bipartisan support for LSC made
possible. We remain confident that the bill providing for LSC's
funding will be approved," said John McKay, LSC
President.

corporation that Congress established in 1974 to seek to ensure
equal access to justice for all low-income persons. It receives
funds annually from Congress and makes grants directly to
independent local programs that provide civil legal assistance to
those who otherwise would be unable to afford it.
