SUMMARY:
Hearing to consider S. 1508 (text, p. 3-12), the Indian Tribal Justice Technical and Legal Assistance Act of 1999, to establish measures to improve tribal justice systems, including provisions to authorize the Department of Justice to award grants to national and regional organizations whose members are tribal justice personnel to provide training and technical assistance for the development of tribal justice systems, and to nonprofit legal services organizations to provide civil and criminal legal assistance to tribal members or judicial systems.
