LETTER MISREPRESENTED PRYCE'S VOTING RECORD
BODY:
The letter from David Scott in the Dec. 6, Dispatch was not an
accurate description of the voting record of U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Perry
Township.
Scott wrote that Pryce has a history of "voting to slash
programs serving children in poverty, such as the Legal Services
Corp.''
The fact is, Pryce voted to increase money for the
corporation in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. The vote taken in 2000 was a voice
vote, so there is no telling whether she shouted "yea'' or "nay.''
Furthermore, it is worth pointing out that the corporation is hardly
deserving of support as Scott would have us believe from his letter.
The
Legal Services Corp. has a history of waste, fraud and abuse,
both in Ohio and on a national scale.
Rather than helping poor children,
as many have been lead to believe, its lawyers have been caught using taxpayer
money to pursue a leftist political agenda.
In a recent scandal, it was
caught lying to Congress about the number of cases it handles. In some cases, it
inflated its caseloads by as much as 800 percent.
Pryce would actually
be right in denying funding to the corporation. It denied her fair and accurate
information and has denied taxpayers appropriate use of their money.
So,
to set the record straight, Scott was wrong to point out that Pryce opposes
funding for Legal Services Corp. and Pryce is wrong to support
funding for the federal program.
Maybe these two wrongs can come
together and make things right for all taxpayers.
