Regulations are costly to American agriculture.
Serving as a watchdog to decrease and reform regulations to
make them more workable for farmers and ranchers, Farm Bureau:
Won House passage of legislation to reduce
paperwork burdens for farmers and helped develop and obtain
Senate introduction of similar legislation.
Worked to develop legislation that strengthens
congressional capacity to oversee regulatory and
administrative activities of federal agencies.
Secured House and Senate introduction of
legislation to extend unfunded mandate protection to
private-sector businesses.
Supported legislation to require federal agencies
to analyze the effectiveness and costs of their regulatory
activities.
Voiced strong support for the continued
confidentiality of data collected through the Agricultural
Census and information related to conservation program
participation.
We
worked to ensure that
farmers and ranchers have available to them a reliable supply
of labor to assist in the tending and harvesting of their farm
products. To further this goal, Farm Bureau:
Supported efforts to increase the farm labor
supply, such as legislation to streamline and reform the
H-2a temporary farm labor program.
Pursued and endorsed legislation to clarify the
Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act
(MSPA) and other regulations governing farm worker
transportation and housing.
Backed legislation to evaluate research related
to ergonomic protection standards and endorsed legislation
directing OSHA to await completion of that study before
promulgating ergonomics regulations.
Worked to prevent an increase in funding for
Legal Services, due to past abuses.
