What is Spent Nuclear Fuel?

What were you doing in the early 1950s? At that time, the United States was beginning to prove that nuclear energy could be used for peaceful purposes. In the years since, many applications for nuclear power have been discovered and developed. Nuclear reactors now are used to generate electricity and to produce special materials that cannot be obtained in any other way for medical and commerical use.
