SUMMARY:
Hearing to consider S. 608, the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1999, to amend the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 to revise DOE programs for the management of spent nuclear reactor fuel and high-level nuclear waste.
 
Includes a provision to require DOE to construct and operate in Nevada a centralized interim storage facility for nuclear wastes transported from other storage sites, pending construction of a permanent repository for nuclear wastes at Yucca Mountain, Nev.
