Senator Murkowski is inventing a crisis to force a vote!
Yesterday on the Senate floor, Senator Murkowski referred to a map showing supposed locations of high level waste that needs to be transported to Yucca Mountain. Mr. Murkowski’s map was inaccurate. Below is the map that the Department of Energy published in its Environmental Impact Statement on Yucca Mountain.
The truth is that the waste can stay where it is until a better solution is found. Yucca Mountain is NOT a viable option for a nuclear waste dump, and there is NO CRISIS that requires shipping waste through 43 states, past the homes and workplaces of 50 million Americans for 25 years.
