Congressman Mark Souder
Serving the residents of Indiana's Fourth Congressional District

Gas Prices

Northeast Indiana jobs and our quality of life depend on affordable and stable energy prices and supplies. We manufacture products which consume energy. We make pick-up trucks, auto parts like pistons, axels, tires, suspensions etc. We make RV's, conversion vans and boats. We are the host to one of the world's largest trucking companies. We are a major producer of steel. Our farmers depend on stable and affordable fuel. We are a gas guzzling district.

The volatility of gas prices is hurting consumers and puting jobs at risk. There is no simple answer to a problem which has arisen from many factors, including the Clinton Energy Department's failure to anticipate current shortages or take effective steps to alleviate them. As a partial solution, Congressman Souder has announced his support for legislation to increase Ethanol research. Other steps include a bill passed by the House to require the President to impose sanctions on nations engaged in oil price fixing.
