Gas
Prices |

Northeast Indiana jobs and our quality of life depend on affordable and
stable energy prices and supplies. We manufacture products which consume
energy. We make pick-up trucks, auto parts like pistons, axels, tires,
suspensions etc. We make RV's, conversion vans and boats. We are the host
to one of the world's largest trucking companies. We are a major producer
of steel. Our farmers depend on stable and affordable fuel. We are a gas
guzzling district.
The volatility of gas prices is hurting consumers and puting jobs at
risk. There is no simple answer to a problem which has arisen from many
factors, including the Clinton Energy Department's failure to anticipate
current shortages or take effective steps to alleviate them. As a partial
solution, Congressman Souder has announced his support for legislation to
increase Ethanol research. Other steps include a bill passed by the House
to require the President to impose sanctions on nations engaged in oil
price fixing. |
