March 16, 2000 Thursday, Final Chaser

SECTION: OPINIONS; Pg. B6

LENGTH: 212 words

HEADLINE: BLAME CLINTON, GORE

BODY:
I am amazed at the uproar created by the press over rising gas prices. Never mind that the feds confiscate 35 percent of our income in every paycheck. The Clinton-Gore administration takes total credit for the orchestration of a robust economy, yet says it is powerless to do anything about this latest gas price increase.

We are asked to cut back on consumption. Never does the federal government consider cutting back on its consumption of our gasoline taxes. If Bill Clinton and Al Gore truly "feel our pain," they will repeal gas taxes temporarily to drop the price by 18.4 cents per gallon for cars and 24.5 cents for truckers.    It was Gore who opposed Desert Storm and President Bush's objective to keep
Mideast oil flowing at market prices. It was Gore who has called the
automobile's combustion engine the greatest threat to mankind. It is Gore who
has pushed a mandate prohibiting drilling and exploration in Alaska in an area
that local residents have referred to as "frozen desert" (it is not a
wildlife habitat).
So, when you pull up to the gas pump and see that price is climbing ever
higher, place the blame where it deserves to go -- on Clinton and Gore and
their environmentalist friends.
