Congressman Bob Borski
Environmental Issues
Congressman Borski is a strong and active supporter of the environment. He has voted consistently in favor of the environment throughout his tenure in Congress. In the year 2000, the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) gave Congressman Borski an overall 85 percent rating on environmental issues. He has an overall PIRG Lifetime Score of 83 percent. Congressman Borski believes in clean, healthy environment for all Americans and works diligently towards this pursuit.
Land Preservation and Conservation
Congressman Borski has been active in supporting legislation that would preserve valuable, scenic lands for future generations. Examples of these areas are the Red Rock wilderness area in Utah and certain undeveloped areas in Alaska. Also, Congressman Borski supports legislation that would connect biological corridors within the Northern Rockies Ecosystem area. He understands that these corridors are necessary for the overall health of the entire ecosystem.
Congressman Borski values our nation’s natural heritage. By supporting both the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Conservation and Reinvestment Act, he is helping to direct money from offshore oil royalty payments to a trust fund designated for environmental and preservation projects. Of particular importance to the City of Philadelphia, are the Historic Preservation Fund and the Urban Park Recovery Fund, which are both parts of this trust fund.
Forest Issues
Congressman Borski has been a dedicated supporter of our National Forests. He has supported the Act to Save America’s Forests that would strengthen the protection of native biodiversity and ban clearcutting on Federal lands. In addition, he has cosigned letters to protect roadless areas in National Forests as well as include the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, as a part of the President’s National Roadless Forest Initiative. Congressman Borski has also addressed the issue of off road vehicle use in National Forests. He is aware of the destruction and air pollution that they cause.
