Green urges Forest Service to grant more time for public input on roadless areas

GREEN BAY – In a letter to the chief of the U.S. Forest Service Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-Green Bay), asked for a 120-day extension of the public comment period regarding the designation of roadless areas in National Forests.

"The Forest Service should give people in northeastern Wisconsin more time to look at this issue and let them know where they stand," Green said. "The government is considering action that could seriously affect everyone who uses our national forests for work or play – it’s only right for them to get the opinions of the folks who will have to live with their decisions."

In the letter, Green wrote that many northeastern Wisconsin residents had told him of the need for more time in the public comment period.

"I have heard from a large number of constituents who have not had the necessary time to provide thoughtful and meaningful input to this process. I find this fact disturbing," Green wrote. "I believe it is critical to extend the comment period to allow everyone with an interest in this matter the opportunity to provide thoughtful comment…"
