Report on Los Padres NF Roadless NOI Meeting
Dec. 8, 1999

Excellent turn out at the Roadless meeting tonight. There were about 85 people in attended this event with only 5 or 6 from the E side.

The San Luis Obispo 4 Wheel Drive club, Gold Coast Cruisers, Santa Maria 4 Wheelers, Tri-County Houndsmen, Back Country Horseman,( Cindy's group Toby), mountain bikers and concerned citizens were in attendence.

Everyone who wanted to speak was given a chance, all well behaved and orderly. Although one green did get a little heckling, he took it well.

The Los Padres NF put this one on and another meeting last night in Santa Barbara -- where only 12 people showed up! I thought there would have been more.

The Forest Service failed to deliever substantive responses number of times and lacked answers to tough question.

Because of that, I pointed out that we all, Forest Service included, need to have the comment period extended. I said if the U.S. can demand and get cease fires in the middle of major conflicts, then surely we can get a small 60 day extension to the current 60 day comment period.

Good meeting, good questions and comments -- the Forest Service folks did they best they could within the short time they've had to try to get it together.
